Paz & Pedro's House
San Simón El Alto, Malinalco, México
COLLABORATION: Paz & Pedro's family + Fundación Comunitaria Malinalco + Tatiana Bilbao ESTUDIO
LOCATION: San Simón El Alto, Malinalco, México
DATE: 2018
DESCRIPTION:
The 2017 earthquakes in central México severely affected dozens of families who lost their homes in the San Simón el Alto Community. As part of a collaborative reconstruction project, over 50 houses were rebuilt through participatory design and construction workshops. Paz and Pedro's house represent one of the best examples accomplished within the community. Due to a very narrow dialogue, the design preserved the intangible spaces that used to give life and activate the house before the earthquake: 1. The Well: a communitarian good, open to all who need it, 2. The Exterior Kitchen: An element of familiar reunion and the family's economic support, as Paz makes tortillas to sell, 3.The Guayabas Patio: A playful space where children play.
